My partner was using a free app for tracking their medication intake, and after the app changed to a paid only version I thought this could be a fun practice project to get familiar with mobile app development. The overall design intention was simple, just to provide an app to schedule medicine alerts, as well as track history of medication taken. While I hadn’t worked directly with mobile previously, coworkers often cited using ReactNative and finding it pretty easy if you’ve had previous React (or similar framework) experience. The app build into a downloadable APK to install on your phone directly, keeping things simple since my intention was just for this to be used by myself and my partner.
Stack
- Expo SDK 54 on React Native 0.81, with expo-router file-based routing
- Notifee for notifications, which is what pushes this out of Expo Go and onto a development build
- expo-dev-client and an EAS build configuration to support that
- TypeScript
